Open tryouts for Strike’s 2020 Inaugural Season took place last Saturday, with 87 womxn registered, and close to 70 athletes attending in person!
More than just a tryout, the event was a celebration of what Co-Founders Eva Maxson and Anna Hagstrom, along with the Premier Ultimate League, have created. As Hagstrom said when welcoming the tryout participants:
“Thank you for being brave… By being here, you are creating the example you’ve wanted. That’s change. That’s progress. That’s activism.”
Athletes traveled from over 8 states – driving as long as 7 hours one way – to attend tryouts, demonstrating how broad the need is for this movement toward equity in sports.
The level of play was extremely high across the board, giving Strike leadership the difficult task of choosing a roster from so many qualified athletes. Hagstrom noted: “We would be proud to take the field for our first game in April with any of these 87 womxn by our side.”
Thank-you to our sponsors who supported us at tryouts, Dave Clements (video), Steve Kotvis (photography), and Northwestern Health Sciences University (athletic trainers). We could not do this without your support!
Stay tuned for the full roster announcement in early March!
